Crayford Special Equipment Ltd was formed a little later as specialist designers of off-road vehicles and distributors of the original Amphicat. With the growth in the 1960's of demand for such vehicles, when production of the Argo range of amphibious ATV's was started at Ontario Drive & Gear factory in Canada, Crayford became the International Distributor for all Argo vehicles. Crayford led ODG to develop the Argo 6 and 8 wheel recreational ATVs for commercial uses in utility markets worldwide. Today Crayford is Europe's leading specialist supplier of ATVs and marine craft, with their appointed network of dealers. Crayford supplies special attachments and working equipment to suit Argo customer requirements for forestry, emergency services , construction, agriculture, local authorities, armed forces, the oil industry and so on. Crayford Special Vehicles Ltd was also appointed international distributor for Hiller Tracked Vehicles, manufactured by Pist and Terrangteknik of Sweden, and notably won a contract to supply vehicles for explosive ordnance disposal by the RAF. In 1997 Crayford Marine Ltd was formed to become the UK and European distributor for the revolutionary Hysucat Rigid Inflatable Boat with Hydrofoil system invented by Professor Hoppe of Stellenbosch University in South Africa, whose designs of Hydrofoil ferries, Patrol craft and Luxury cruisers are renowned. In 1998, Crayford purchased their own HQ premises in St.Albans, England just north of the M25. The business has been expanding steadily in recent years, and is poised to take its operations further into new markets building on the Crayford vehicle and marine engineering expertise. In 1999 Crayford Marine Ltd. bought a derelict boat yard at a beautiful location on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, renovated the site and, in 2000, opened the Skye Boat Centre Ltd. to provide marine engineering and boat yard services for local and tourist customers. In 2001 Crayford SA won a major tender with the South African Special Forces to supply 100 "Gecko" rapid deployment logistical vehicle/trailer systems based on the Argo CENTAUR rolling chassis.
